1965 Comet B/FX – Best of Mercury Cars
Drag racing was super popular in the mid 1960s. By 1965, 15 specially built lightweight drag racing Mercury cars (Comet Cyclones) were converted into what we call a B – Factory eXperimental class. The B class was a little bit different from A/FX racing. The A/FX were the big-block high performance cars with a lot of different custom elements. B/FX cars were a little more stock and usually campaigned by (groups of) dealerships.
This particular small-block B/FX Mercury Comet is powered by 289 cubic inch engine producing around 395 horsepower and 330 pound feet of torque. The solid performance is product of the special Ford race parts installed in this vehicle. This kind of engine combined with some race parts and combined with the lightweight of the vehicle, makes this Comet close to a big-block performance.
