James Garner’s 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass – The Banshee
What we are seeing today it’s 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass, so called “the Banshee”. This off road racer has an amazing history. Build by Vic Hickey and driven by the actor James Garner, who is the greatest Hollywood petrol-head. James is an actor with the most races in his career, more than Steve McQueen and Paul Newman. This Olds Cutlass is currently owned by Jon Swift, who still uses this vehicle for racing.
This 1972 Oldsmobile Cutlass off-road racer is built with purpose by General Motors. Its 2/3 scale, based on tube chassis and fiberglass body. The engine is center positioned, on the passenger seat, for better weight distribution. Originally it had 455 or 7.5 liter V8 Oldsmobile engine, but this one was replaced with modern all aluminum LS3 or 6.2 liter V8 engine developing 430 horsepower attached by General Motors Turbo 400 transmission system.
